During the holiday season, the temptations of consuming an abundance of fattening food, sugar, caffeine and alcohol can be overwhelming. It is easy to forget our daily routines and succumb to these unhealthy holiday traditions.

Is enjoying a few of these treats in moderation going to be earth shattering to our health? For most healthy individuals, no it will not. However, to balance out the bad, let’s focus on some positive, healthy food and drinks we should be consuming not only during the holiday season but all year long.

Here’s a list of just a few of my favorites:

Kale

It’s loaded with vitamin C, vitamin B, and calcium.

Avocado

Nutrient dense, and helps the body better absorb nutrients from other foods that are eaten with it.

Broccoli and Cabbage

These vegetables neutralize toxins in your liver.

Winter Squash

A great source of folate and vitamin B6.

Sweet Potatoes

One of nature’s best sources of beta-carotene, full of fiber, protein, vitamin A & C.

Wild Alaskan Salmon

Excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, high quality protein, essential amino acids, Vitamns A, D, B6, B and E as well as calcium, iron, zinc and magnesium.

Green Tea

Very rich in health-promoting flavonoids, including catechins and their derivatives.

Adzuki Beans

They contain some of the highest levels of protein of all beans.

Sunflower Seeds

Raw seeds contain a large percent of the RDA for vitamin E.

Almonds

Almonds are good for heart health and loaded with vitamin E.

Organic, Pastuerized Eggs

Wonderful source of high-quality nutrients, especially fat and protein.
